This markup calculator turns cost and markup into a selling price or cost and price into the markup and margin behind it.
Markup % = (Profit ÷ Cost) × 100
Margin % = (Profit ÷ Selling price) × 100
A markup and a margin of the same size are never the same number — markup is always the larger one.
A markup calculator works out your selling price by adding a percentage on top of cost or, run backward, tells you the markup you’re already charging from your cost and price.
It depends heavily on industry and cost structure see the benchmark table above for verified sector averages.
Margin % = Markup % ÷ (1 + Markup %), both expressed as decimals.
Profit = Selling price − Cost
Markup percentage = Profit ÷ Cost × 100
Selling price = Cost × (1 + Markup percentage ÷ 100)
The calculator also displays gross margin:
Gross margin = Profit ÷ Selling price × 100
If average revenue per customer is entered:
Revenue-to-CPA ratio = Average revenue per customer ÷ CPA
Example: $100 revenue ÷ $20 CPA = 5:1
The calculator supports two modes:
Markup measures profit against cost, while margin measures profit against the final selling price. Therefore, a 60% markup does not equal a 60% margin.
